On September 20, 2025, Vienna’s Heldenplatz once again transformed into a giant sports arena. The Day of Sports, Austria’s largest open-air sports event, celebrated its 24th edition and attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors to the capital – offering a program ranging from elite sports and hands-on activities to sustainable initiatives.

Together with SkiAustria Vienna, the Snowsports Academy also took part – bringing winter sports right into the heart of Vienna.

Sports up close – meet your idols

From the Hofburg to the Heldentor, the passion for sports and movement was tangible. At over 80 interactive stations, children and adults alike had the chance to get active. National sports federations, clubs, and athletes showcased their disciplines and provided exciting insights. The true stars of the day, however, were not only Olympic champions and world titleholders – but also the visitors themselves, who worked up a sweat from morning until night.

State Secretary for Sports Michaela Schmidt summed it up perfectly:“The Day of Sports has long been more than just an event – it’s a true highlight for sports fans of all ages. More than 80 sports could be tried out, and around 100 Austrian federations presented themselves.”

The Snowsports Academy, together with SkiAustria Vienna – Wiener Skiverband, brought winter sports right into the heart of Vienna. With a ski simulator, children and adults were able to test their slalom skills. The turnout was overwhelming: from the morning hours until late evening, visitors lined up to carve through the slalom gates and chase the best time. Winter sports became tangible – sparking excitement and anticipation for the upcoming season.

Show acts, awards, and unsung heroes

Beyond the interactive stations, the Heldenplatz was alive with spectacular show acts – from cheerleaders and dance groups to stunt performances. On the main stage, Austria’s most successful athletes were honored. A special highlight was the awarding of tree sponsorships within the “Baumbuddy” environmental project, underlining once again the strong focus on sustainability in sports.

The unsung heroes of sports also took center stage: the Volunteer Award honored dedicated officials and club members whose commitment forms the foundation for success in both grassroots and elite sports.

Conclusion: A festival that moves

Whether elite sports, trending activities like padel tennis or rope skipping, or sustainability initiatives – the Day of Sports 2025 once again highlighted the diversity and vitality of Austria’s sports culture.

For the Snowsports Academy, it was a special pleasure to make skiing come alive in the middle of Vienna, together with SkiAustria Vienna – and to witness the enthusiasm the ski simulator sparked among young and old alike.
